My name is Brad;
I make custom throwing axes and restore vintage axes and hand tools. I'm giving old axes new life and making them not only beautiful but usable again!
Why should you buy an Axe from Vintage Axe Revival?
My Goal is to build an axe you'll be proud to own! An axe that will fly straight and improve your game and is not only beautiful but sharp and durable. I don’t make just wall hangers, I make axes that cut well and throw beautifully and can be admired for generations to come.
"This axe is absolutely beautiful! Brad’s work and and passion for axes really shines with his craftsmanship. If you’re in the market for an extremely good quality axe that’ll shock everyone with its looks alone, he’s the man to go to!"
Update on the newest addition from Brad! The Plumb Champion makes the perfect mantle piece with the beautifully kept details on the axe head. Definitely recommend the custom leather sheath with the axe because Brad really doesn’t mess around when he sharpens these axes THEY’RE SHARP!
" I have purchased four axes from Brad. His workmanship and attention to detail is second to none. When I received my first ax I thought WOW!! Way to beautiful touse, but like all my gear I buy it to use it. All four axes from the small boys ax to the large splitter have work amazingly. Just last weekend my boy went to work for a friend of mine on his small ranch. His job? Splitting and stacking two cords of wood. He came home grabbed the splitting ax and went to work. He said he couldn’t have done it without such an awesome ax, made the splitting a little easier. Brad is amazing to work with and will do whatever you need and want for the ax. His leather masks for the axes are awesome and give them a real personal touch. He also will burn your name or whatever you want into the handle. Thanks Brad for your passion of these axes it truly shows!!!! "
A little back story. I received a text from J.W. a National Forest Service worker who saw my Craigslist
His first text read
"Good morning,
I need a new (old) axe. I work for the forest service in the superior wilderness so an axe and crosscut are my full time tree tools, I need a working axe. I've about run my Collins Legitimus past it's usefulness. I've run with Sager, Plumb, Bluegrass, Vaughn, Chemical, and Norlund in the past, all are fine.
I'm looking for 2 double bits at 2 3/4lbs(ish), field sharpen-able, full temper, without top batwing points (Michigan-ish), 30 degree with hollowed cheek on felling side, 35 degree with mid cheek on swamp side. (As long as the cheeks are moderate I can set the angles)
30 inch, well hung handle less than 3/4' by 1 1/4'(tapered), straight grained with little to no run off. Wood wedged. Hickory, black locust, hop-hornbeam or white ash. finished with linseed oil only.
I work for 8 days at a time afield, I would like to have 2 the same.
I have my own bit covers.
I saw your ad listing many fine axes, I need working axes. Good steel, straight handling. If you can accommodate the above criteria I will be able to come you this coming Sunday, July 10th evening on my way to a blow down clearing job in Wisconsin.
I have a budget of $400. Please let me know if you have my axes.
Thank you,
J.W."
I was able to pull two axes together for J.W in one weekend and made it happen! I liked that he'd be working my axes hard and could give me honest feedback on them.
This is what he had to say! after one week of hard use!
"Good evening. The 2 3lb got ran hard, blew off that honed edge Monday and Tuesday. My clear count for the week was 119 felled, 404 bucked. I ended up pulling a little more cheek out of the darker handled and sharpening both bits to 30 degrees. I like that axe a lot. The lighter colored handled 3lb runs fine I just didn't like it as much, haven't figured out just why yet. No complaints with the faces or hangs, Thanks for the work! What is your process for finish honing? I can sharpen, but never end up with a mirrored bit like you turned them over to me with. It seemed to fare better than a plain strop finished puck edge after days of hardwood work. Thanks- J.W. my iPhone”
The axe Brad made for me is absolutely amazing! Everything from the pole repair to wedging is done with such craftsmanship. When he sharpens an axe it is razor sharp. Also he made a leather sheath and belt loop are great! If you’re in the market for a very high quality axe that is made to last and beautiful Vintage Axe Revival is the one stop shop!
